Surrounded by Beauty

Once you have arrived and checked in, you can rest or, opening our ancient wooden door like the hatch of a time machine, walk through centuries of history along alleys full of monuments, many of them dedicated to the Patron Saint St. Agatha, and Baroque palazzi, today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Just a few metres away you will find yourself at Castello Ursino.

The fortress built by Emperor Frederick II now houses international art exhibitions and historical artefacts within its imposing walls.
The area around the Swabian fortress is surrounded by traditional meat and fish trattorias serving delicious dishes at lunch and dinner, until late at night.

Almost next door to Palazzo Speciale, every morning the traditional fish market, A piscaria, entertains buyers and curious onlookers alike with its colourful display of stalls, full of the colours and extravagant shapes of freshly caught, prized sea creatures.
From here, climbing a small flight of steps, you will be behind the Amenano Fountain,
known as acqua a linzolu; this is the visible trace of the Amenano river, which flows underground and surfaces right at the city’s main square.

Once you have recovered from the hypnotic flow of the river’s waters into the fountain and turned the corner
you will see Piazza Duomo open up before you, from whose centre rises towards the sky the Liotru, the elephant obelisk, symbol of Catania.
In the square you can immediately visit: the Cathedral of Sant’Agata, Palazzo degli Elefanti, the Achillean Baths, the Diocesan Museum, Porta Uzeda.
This is, in fact, the place to start your city tour to discover all the historical and artistic treasures of Catania.
This is also where via Etnea begins, Catania’s main street, lined with shops that will be your shopping paradise, and cafés - including the famous Savia - ready to refresh you with granitas, gelato, cannoli or arancini.

And for every trip out of town, right behind Palazzo Speciale Rooms, in piazza Borsellino, also known as piazza Alcalà, visitors can conveniently park their car or take the bus to Fontanarossa airport, Palermo and other Sicilian cities.
